FCICA Announces Convention Educational Sessions

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from some of the brightest and most dedicated people in the flooring industry. Three Certified Installation Manager (CIM) modules will also be presented at this event and those individuals in attendance working on their Installation Manager certification will receive credit. 

 

Convention kicks off with Installation Manager Module #7—Financial Management: Budget vs. Actual, presented by Terry Wheat, president of RFMS. Join Wheat, as he advances attendees on the Installation Management track with Financial Management: Budget vs. Actual. He will begin with a discussion on the challenges to tracking labor and job status, and identifying what the IM’s responsibilities include. Followed by, tracking the labor productivity and job status process, punch list sign offs, and the electronic labor tracking system. The session will conclude with a review of the best practices for financial management. This session will be taped and included in the online installation manager training program.

 

The second educational session will be presented by John Kozak of CBC America, Sonny Callaham of Royal Adhesives & Sealants and Sim Crisler of LGM and Associates, covering Installation Manager Module #7a—Handling Claims on the Jobsite. This session is the next chapter of Financial Management, as part of the Installation Management Certification Program and will provide a more in depth look at how to handle claims on the jobsite. John will give us insights into understanding product claims, including best practices. Sonny will continue the session with how to handle claims on the adhesive side, followed by best practices regarding adhesives claims. This session will conclude with Sim providing a complete overview of the claims process, a review of best practices to handling claims on the jobsite and a chance to ask your questions during the Q&A session. This session will be taped and included in the online installation manager training program.

 

Installation Manager Module #8—Closing Out the Job will be the final presentation on March 2. Amy Johnston of Flooring Services and JR Allred of Dalton Carpet One will present the final Installation Management track, completing the Certified Installation Manager program. In this session, Johnston will discuss challenges to completing the job, the seven job completion functions, punch list completion/sign off, and end with the close out meeting and best practices. Then, Allred will cover the operations and maintenance side with topics such as: O&M manuals, jargon, regulations, updates, education, and documents. He will conclude the session with a discussion on margin erosion/enhancement and the best practices for closing out the job. This session will also include an interactive Q&A session. This session will be taped and included as a module in the online Certified Installation Manager (CIM) program.

 

On March 3, the day will begin with What’s New with Safety, presented by Jack West, National Account Executive for Federated Insurance. Safety is extremely important on the job site and Jack West will share insights about what contractors need to know in regards to creating and maintaining a safe working environment. What are the new OSHA regulations, what are the new concerns out there and how do they affect your contractor business. The new edition of FCICA’s Start with Safety book will be presented and some important new topics covered in the book will be discussed, including: activity hazard analysis, equipment maintenance, lockout/tagout procedures, materials handling, storage, slips, trips and falls. 

 

Next, attendees will enjoy a tabletop trade show where they can visit with associate members and learn about their new and innovative products. 

 

To conclude the day and the educational session offerings, Kevin Hawthorne of Aramsco will present Tools and Equipment—Are You Prepared? Kevin Hawthorne will showcase the new equipment and tools every flooring contractor should have, focusing on surface prep equipment and applications. Discover what tools and equipment can help you save money; help with efficiency on the job site and which ones should you have on the jobsite at all times. This session will also match flooring problems with the tools and equipment needed to correct the problem. Bring your tool questions for this interactive presentation.
