Richard K. “Dick” Capobianco passed away on Feb. 20 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 78.

After graduating from Glen Cove High School in 1955, Capobianco served in the U.S. Navy and returned to start a career in floor covering sales at the Hicksville, N.Y., Glen Floors store. Glen Floors was founded by Capobianco's grandfather, Antonio, in 1932.

In 1971, Capobianco and his wife, Sidnee, purchased Fred's Carpet from a former coworker. Capobianco and Sidnee's sons, Christopher and Andy, became active in the business, and today the store is operated by Andy and his wife, Marianne.

Capobianco was an avid boater and skier, a member of the Northport Yacht Club and an active member of the East Northport Rotary Club.

Capobianco is survived by his wife, sons, as well as nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Capobianco's viewing will be Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brueggemann Funeral Home, located at 522 Larkfield Road, East Northport, N.Y. The funeral service will take place Thursday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. at Union United Methodist Church, located 1018 Pulaski Road, East Northport.
