Concurrent with a ribbon cutting ceremony at its newly-expanded LVT manufacturing facility in Madison, Ga., Mannington Mills announced it has committed to another investment at the same location. The ribbon cutting celebrates the opening of its expanded manufacturing facility, which broke ground one year ago. That facilitys footprint has doubled in size and quadrupled in capacity and significantly increased Manningtons local workforce. By early 2015, 219 new jobs will have been added at this site, the manufacturer said. Along with the celebration, Mannington announced it has purchased 62 acres of nearby land for further development. Tarkett has reached an agreement in principle with Bencis Capital Partners and minority investors to acquire 100% of Desso. Headquartered in the Netherlands, Desso achieved approximately $253 million in sales last year, employs approximately 820 people and operates three plants in Europe. The manufacturer produces high-end carpet for commercial applications (offices, education, hospitality, marine and aviation segments) and is present in the residential market in Europe. The company also serves the sports market with artificial turf and a unique reinforced natural grass system (GrassMaster). The acquisition of Desso will enable Tarkett to accelerate its growth strategy by targeting the European market of added-value carpet for commercial and residential use, as well as innovative sports surfaces. NAC Products has released its 2015 calendar, Classic Vehicles from the Flooring Industry. After the success of the first two calendars and the tremendous response we received about it from people inside and outside of the industry, we knew we had to step up the design this year, said Brian Petit, vice president of operations. This project has been a lot of fun, and to see the wide variety of vehicles from people throughout the flooring industry shows that collecting classic vehicles is a hobby that is not going away any time soon. The layout of the 13-month calendar begins with a holiday greeting for the month of December 2014, and each subsequent month features a classic vehicle from someone within the flooring industry. The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) is seeking nominations for its 2015-2016 board of directors. The group is seeking candidates who will uphold the vision, values and mission of the NWFA, according to the organization. Candidate guideline selection includes: balance of member types, balance of geographic representation, balance of markets served, individual diversity, principal owner or executive level leader preferred, NWFA committee experience and board or community service in other organizations, the association noted. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced it will allow LEED users to register projects under the LEED 2009 rating system until Oct. 31, 2016. The original date for LEED 2009 registration to close was June 15, 2015. Extending to October 2016 gives LEED users and members of the green building industry additional time to prepare for LEED v4, the latest version of LEED, the group said. When USGBC launched LEED v4 last year, we set out with one goal in mindto raise the bar in a way that challenges the building industry to reach higher than ever before. However, the market has requested additional time to prepare for LEED v4, so we are responding, said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO and founding chair, USGBC. In a survey conducted at last weeks Greenbuild conference, 61% of respondents said they are not ready or unsure if they are ready to pursue LEED v4 and require additional time to prepare.
