Vermont Natural Coatings has opened a comprehensive training center for professional flooring contractors at its headquarters in Hardwick, Vt. The 2,000-square foot center was designed and installed under the direction of Bob Goldstein, Vermont Natural Coatings professional floor sales and technical adviser. A National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) certified inspector, installer and sand and finisher, Goldstein will oversee curriculum planning and instruction. Training will provide credits toward NWFA degrees. The Flooring Contractors Associations (FCICA) Floorcovering Installation Training (FIT) curriculum was established to meet the demand for skilled floor covering installation personnel and to create a minimum standard for installation training, according to the association. The FIT program encompasses a set of tools intended for use by installation contractors to train their installers in-house. The classroom instruction is intended to be taught and paced so that it can be reinforced regularly by job field experience. These materials support educational opportunities for both trainees and established installers who seek upgraded training. As a part of the move, IICRC is also changing association management firms to Metacred, an association management firm specializing in credentialing programs.
