Mohawk Industries has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the IVC Group. The IVC Group is a major manufacturer of sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and laminate, with operations in Europe and the U.S. and sales of approximately $700 million. Mohawk is acquiring IVC for approximately $1.2 billion through a combination of cash and equity. The transaction is expected to be completed around the end of the first quarter of this year, pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Mohawk anticipates that the transaction will be accretive to EPS in the first 12 months. The IVC Group was founded in Belgium in 1997 by Filip Balcaen, who is currently IVCs chairman and primary shareholder. IVC is a major sheet vinyl provider in Europe and the U.S. and is also a leading player in the fast growing LVT category. The National Wood Flooring Associations (NWFA) Wood Flooring Expo is continuing its growth trend. According to the association, the expo has experienced three consecutive years of 20% to 30% increases in attendance, topping 3,000 attendees this year in Nashville, Tenn. Pre-event metrics show another promising expo is on the horizon for 2015. The 2015 expo, which will take place April 28 to May 1 in St. Louis, hometown of NWFA, is seeing registration that is 28% higher than this time last year; booth sales for the tradeshow have increased 30% and capacity in NWFA-reserved rooms at the four downtown St. Louis hotels that are contracted for the convention has grown 42% more than at years end leading up to this years event. Judging has begun for the HPS Schnox Worst Subfloor in North America contest. Launched in May, the contest was put together to shine a light on tough subfloor conditions, detail the best ways to renovate them, and provide some recognition and publicity for the companies who handle these challenging projects, according to Thomas Trissl, Schnox principal. Weve been really excited to see the strong participation by installers and contractors and the overall interest by the flooring industry in the contest. We are eager to demonstrate the importance of subfloor preparation and to recognize flooring companies who excel in this area. The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) will conduct two one-day training sessions in January in Las Vegas, in conjunction with The International Surface Event (TISE). The NWFA Certified Professionals (NWFACP) sales advisor certification workshop will take place Jan. 20. The Environmental Effects on Wood workshop will be held on Jan. 23, and will offer continuing certification units toward annual certification maintenance requirements. The Environmental Effects on Wood workshop is a comprehensive course that covers water/wood relationships, temperature and humidity, HVAC and humidification/dehumidification systems and how environmental conditions affect wood flooring. The workshop will be taught by Randy Lenz and Janis Rozenbergs, of April Aire, and Roy Reichow, owner of National Wood Floor Consultants. Emerging professionals attending The International Surface Event (TISE), Jan. 20 to 23 at the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino in Las Vegas, will have the opportunity to network with peers and industry professionals at a happy hour event. The emerging professionals initiative was introduced at this years show to provide a forum for networking and idea exchange for flooring, stone and tile professionals under the age of 40. The TISE 2015 advisory council, comprised of professionals representing every facet of the industry, met with show management to offer insight on industry trends, hot topics and provide feedback on timely content for the education program. Among the topics discussed was the need for more emerging professionals events at TISE, such as happy hours and luncheons.
